Joan Palano Ciolfi‘s paintings are expressive oils infused with energy and texture, which push the seemingly realistic subject matter towards abstraction; an abandoned building, a summer storm, a red dress. Her work is vibrant and atmospheric. Painting allows her to share her passion for color which is essential to her imagery. Her work focuses on color, texture, and composition to create both abstract and realistic images of dramatic landscapes, open skies and intricate objects found all around us.
Trained in the fine arts, graphics and textile design, Joan has explored the use of various mediums. Joan takes her inspiration from scenes in everyday life. Her brilliant use of simple images and powerful interplay of light convey stillness and breathtaking beauty.
Joan has enjoyed solo exhibits in Cambridge and Lenox, and has shown her work in galleries and group exhibits throughout New England and New York. Her work has been published nationally and collected throughout the United States.
Joan received a BFA from Southeastern Massachusetts University with a focus on graphic design. She has worked as a textile and wall covering designer for numerous national brands and as a freelance artist for clients throughout the northeast. Her experiences show through in the choices of colors and textures in her work.
